Recently, the IRS updated the W-4 withholding certificate to remove the “Head of Household” filing status. On 5/1/2015.
What does that mean for you?
Anyone who has had “Head of Household” as their Federal withholding statuses should be updated to “Single”. The tax withheld from paychecks should continue to be the same.
We recommend that anyone who had “Head of House” filing statuses fill out an updated 2015 W4 form and turn that form into their HR Department. You can print an updated W4 from from the IRS website here.

Congress has extended many popular tax provisions that significantly impact individuals and businesses. Late on December 16, 2014, the Senate, following earlier action in the House of Representatives, voted 76 to 16 to pass an identical version of H.R. 5771, the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014 (2014 TIPA). The legislation also extends mult-iemployer pension provisions first enacted under the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (2006 PPA). In addition, the extenders legislation adds “ABLE Accounts” that will help disabled individuals save for their future much like the popular §529 education plans and accounts.
The bill’s provisions are summarized below.
